Description
I spent about an hour watching this wild barred owl hunting for snakes at the edge of a forest early one morning. He was sitting among the alder trees, very well camouflaged, but the robins gave him away...they were calling their warning calls, swooping down on him, never giving him a moment's peace. He looked completely non-plussed the whole time.
Barred owls are usually seen hunting at dawn and dusk, however during nesting season (in the spring), they can be often be seen hunting in the daylight hours.

Love your owl shots Peggy!
Peggy Collins replied:
Thank you very much, Jayson. I can't remember if it was this time or not but when I was photographing this particular owl (always on this same trail), I had a very close encounter with a black bear. First time I ever pulled out my bear spray! But it wasn't needed afterall, as he eventually continued on his way after peering at me for quite awhile since I had the nerve to be standing right where he wanted to go.
