Description
Photograph of a brown pelican about to dive into the turquoise ocean water off the coast of Cayo Santa Maria, Cuba, as it hunts for fish.
These fascinating water birds were constantly in flocks diving into the surf, fishing along the shoreline. Quite often they would fly so close I couldn't even fit their entire bodies in the frame when photographing them and occasionally they would dive between people swimming. Their wingspan is normally just over 4.5 feet and average weight is under 10 pounds, which makes them the smallest pelican.
This photograph is one of many I have in both my collection of bird images and my Cuba gallery.
Day 4 - "Pelican Diving for Fish - Cayo Santa Maria Cuba" is my day 4 entry in Fine Art America's 30 Day Challenge to create a new work each day for 30 days in a row.
