Description
Photograph of a huge brown pelican as it flies past me, water dripping from its beak after a recent dive for fish, with the turquoise waters of the ocean in the background. Photographed on Cayo Santa Maria in Cuba where these fascinating water birds were constantly in flocks diving into the surf, fishing along the shoreline. Quite often they would fly so close I couldn't even fit their entire bodies in the frame when photographing them. Their wingspan is normally just over 4.5 feet and average weight is under 10 pounds, which makes them the smallest pelican.
This photograph is one of many I have in both my collection of bird images and my Cuba gallery.
"Flying Pelican - Cayo Santa Maria Cuba" won 2nd place in Fine Art America's "Everything Pelican contest, May, 2021.
