Photograph of a mother sandhill crane feeding her two-day-old baby chick. I photographed the family of cranes at the George C. Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Delta, British Columbia, Canada. The cranes' area was blocked off so that they wouldn't be disturbed so I stood on a bench at quite a distance to get this shot with my telephoto lens. The mother crane is feeding the baby an insect. At two days old the baby was able to walk awkwardly and would often plunk himself down suddenly after taking a few quick stumbling steps. It was a very endearing scene to watch but I couldn't help but laugh out loud at the chick's awkwardness. The tenderness of the parent cranes shown to their baby is a memory I'll always treasure.

I am a digital/mixed media artist and nature photographer living on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. I'm surrounded by the ocean, forests, mountains, and abundant wildlife, and these things bring me joy that I hope finds its way into my images. When you view my work, my wish is that you feel a sense of intimacy that deepens your own connection to nature. Aside from photography, one of my passions is creating portraits of cats, dogs, and other animals. I also have growing collections of abstract landscapes, trees, flowers, and musical instruments. I also enjoy creating collages using vintage ephemera from the late 1800's and early 1900's. My work has been published numerous times in books, magazines, calendars, greeting...
