Description
Vintage ad of an electric car manufactured and sold by Rauch and Lang, based in Cleveland, Ohio in the early 1900s. Pictured in the advertisement's full color illustration is a black automobile, an antique upholstered chair and a fur-lined red robe draped on it, and some fur-lined ladies boots next to the chair. The text of the ad features the prestige and luxury aspect of buying this fine car as a means of transportation for the upwardly-mobile. By 1908, Rauch and Lang were producing about 500 vehicles each year, with back orders of 300 cars. In 1911 the car was voted the most popular electric car in San Francisco. However the days of the electric car were numbered and they fell out of favor, replaced by automobiles with electromagnetic transmissions.
