Photograph of a coho salmon jumping in the ocean before it swims upriver to spawn. This photograph was taken in the Pacific Northwest, specifically in Sargeant Bay, which is in Halfmoon Bay on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, Canada. The fish were definitely jumping that day...as I photographed them leaping out of the water, fishermen were rowing as quickly as they could to try to pull a salmon in on their lines. After watching for hours, I only saw one lucky woman catch a salmon. I shot this image handheld so that I could quickly aim my camera in the direction of the jumping fish.
I am a digital/mixed media artist and nature photographer living on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. I'm surrounded by the ocean, forests, mountains, and abundant wildlife, and these things bring me joy that I hope finds its way into my images. When you view my work, my wish is that you feel a sense of intimacy that deepens your own connection to nature. Aside from photography, one of my passions is creating portraits of cats, dogs, and other animals. I also have growing collections of abstract landscapes, trees, flowers, and musical instruments.
