Description
This is a commissioned work of a handsome tabby cat named Monet. Here is what Monet's owner has to say about him:
"I was reading various posts on Facebook one morning in July 2017 and I came a cross a lot of posts about a young cat hanging around the LaQuinta Hotel here in Kyle, about 5 minutes from me. People were going to see the cat to see if it was theirs. Then they would put it down and leave. I kept posting "Did you feed the cat?" and no one was answering. A woman from a rescue said if someone could go get the cat, and meet with her that night she would rescue it. I had a cat carrier and I was five minutes away, so I went and got him. It was 113 degrees out.
He was laying in a sliver of shade in the bushes around the hotel. I picked him up and he came willingly. I put him in the carrier and opened a can of wet food and he wolfed it down. I brought him home and put him in my bathroom. As I patted him on the head, he slowly sunk down to the floor and fell asleep, exhausted. Although I did meet up with the rescue lady later that day, she called me the next day and said she had to go out of town for a few days and could I take him? Which I did. Turned out he had a microchip and she and the shelter he came from called and called the owner and she did not return their calls. She lived 50 miles from Kyle in Hutto. The shelter was in code red, and there was a pretty good chance if he was returned to the shelter he would be killed, so I adopted him. He was a year old. He was extremely thin.
Monet is a sweet, loving kitty. He too does not like to be picked up, mostly because now he knows it means he is going to the vet. It took 8 months for Severus to accept Monet, but now they are like brothers. When my ex comes over Monet hops up on the couch my ex is sitting on and rubs his head against the back of my ex's head. For several minutes. Monet prefers to sleep with me on the bed each night. Severus likes to sleep out in the living room in his cat tree. Sometimes, when Severus is feeling that he needs me, he will come into the bedroom and hop up on a pile of pillows I have made for him and sleep for a few hours above my head. Usually, though, Monet will have to reach out and grab Severus or jump on him. Monet is all about playing. Severus initiates it about 50% of the time now, and it is sweet to see him walk up to Monet and put his head down into Monet's chest ... then the wrestling begins. Sometimes in mid attack, Severus will start grooming Monet. I still have not figured out if this is a strategy to distract Monet, or if it is just grooming. When it gets too intense, Severus is always the one to jump away and take a break. Monet, too, will run and hide when a visitor comes to the house, but he always comes right back to see who it is, and to observe the visitor and see if they want to visit with him.
One of the first things I did when I bought my house was to have a catio built. Both Severus and Monet go out first thing in the morning (they stand on the steps leading up to the window out to the catio and just wait until I open it) and go in and out several times a day. While I am making breakfast, a snack, or dinner, Severus and Monet will wrestle quietly, mostly, on the kitchen floor until I set out their food. Both cats love my dog, and my dog seems to love both cats, and stays out of the way when the chasing and running starts."
