Artist's Description
Panorama photograph of a flock of 10 great blue herons resting in the Marshall-Stevenson Qualicum National Wildlife reserve close to the Little Qualicum River in Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. I've never seen this many herons together before unless they were in nests in a rookery. This flock - often numbering 13 in all - over-wintered in this area and would fly to the beach half a block away in order to fish at low tide. Some snow geese and mallard ducks can be seen in the distance.
