Description
After going for a hike, I returned to my van to find this Mourning Cloak butterfly inching its way along my tire rim. I think I finally figured out what it was doing...it was licking the salt off my tires. Eventually it let me pick it up and it proceeded to inch its way across my hand, probably licking more salt, then flew off to my tire again. We went through this routine about half a dozen times. It was quite an enchanting experience. This was the first butterfly I saw in the spring and after doing a little research, I discovered that Mourning Cloaks are indeed often the first butterflies seen in the springtime. In England this butterfly is called a Camberwell Beauty.
