Peggy Collins replied:

Thank you, William! I have a thing for totem poles...many more to come. I think this one is pretty powerful.

Artist's Description

Detail of a Thunderbird totem pole found in Victoria, British Columbia, carved in cedar.

Totem poles were first erected in Victoria's Thunderbird Park in 1940 as part of a conservation effort to preserve some of the region's rapidly deteriorating Aboriginal art.

The site was opened as Thunderbird Park in 1941 but by 1951, many of the poles were badly decayed. In 1952 the Royal BC Museum began a restoration program with Chief Mungo Martin as its head carver.

Peggy Collins

Aside from photography, one of my passions is creating portraits of cats, dogs, and other animals. I also have growing collections of abstract landscapes, trees, flowers, and musical instruments. I also enjoy creating collages using vintage ephemera from the late 1800's and early 1900's. My work has been published numerous times in books, magazines, calendars, greeting...
