Description
Photograph of a juvenile Steller's Jay sitting on a quilt in my back yard, an alert and inquisitive look in his eye. A watercolor effect has been added to my original photo to give the image a painterly quality. The jay's bright blue feathers match the deep blue of the quilt fabric. Steller's Jays have a black head and crest, with black feathers on their upper body and blue feathers on their lower body and tail feathers. They often worked in small groups of birds, descending on the bird feeder all at once and wiping out seeds like there was no tomorrow. When they visited they would often announce their presence with loud squawking. This kind of jay is to be found in the forests of western North America but they're also a common backyard bird.
