Description
The snow bunting is a passerine bird in the family Calcariidae. It is an Arctic bird that breeds on the tundra in winter. I photographed this lone bird close to the ocean's shoreline in Qualicum Beach, British Columbia in early November. This was the first time I've ever seen a snow bunting and I was struck by the bird's trusting nature...it wandered closer and closer to me as it nibbled on tiny seeds that it found in the greenery. After spending quite a lot of time with this beautiful bird, I was wishing I could take her home with me!
