Photograph of a pair of scarlet macaws having an intimate moment, touching each others beaks in an almond tree in the Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica. This pair of parrots was acting like an old married couple, all lovey-dovey one minute and then arguing the next. They would find a ripe almond and peel it, sometimes share the nut but sometimes keeping it for themselves. It was wonderful to see their interactions and they kept me mesmerized for quite some time. Scarlet macaws generally live 40 to 50 years but can live for up to 90 years in captivity. Imagine being married that long!
This photograph is one in a series of many that I took of scarlet mackaws in the Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica.
