Photograph of a male rufous hummingbird sitting on a tree branch with a background that has the look of batik but is actually oceanspray bushes. Except for the hummingbird's colorful red throat, the tones of this wildlife picture are subdued tan, gold and green. I photographed this little guy in my backyard and managed to sit very close to him. It's rare for a hummingbird to sit still for a portrait session...the tiny bird actually napped a little while I merrily snapped away. The photograph was taken in the early spring, and I think the hummer was perhaps tired from his recent migration from Mexico to British Columbia, Canada, where I live.
I am a digital/mixed media artist and nature photographer living on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. I'm surrounded by the ocean, forests, mountains, and abundant wildlife, and these things bring me joy that I hope finds its way into my images. When you view my work, my wish is that you feel a sense of intimacy that deepens your own connection to nature. Aside from photography, one of my passions is creating portraits of cats, dogs, and other animals. I also have growing collections of abstract landscapes, trees, flowers, and musical instruments. I also enjoy creating collages using vintage ephemera from the late 1800's and early 1900's. My work has been published numerous times in books, magazines, calendars, greeting...
