Description
Photograph of two mated bald eagles calling each other while perched in a treetop. This eagle couple must have a nest very close by because I see at least one of them every morning from my kitchen window. When the eagle's partner joins him or her, they begin calling to each other. Most of the time they do what's call the chatter call when they're together, which consists of three or four notes followed by a rapid sequence of descending notes. When alone they tend to do what's known as the peal call which are more high-pitched, prolonged, and sound more like the cries of a gull.
The photograph was taken on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. BC has a huge population of bald eagles...approximately 20,000 of them.
