Yes, everything you've heard about squirrels is true...they are real romantics and have been known to spend big money on emerald and gold wedding rings, sometimes saving a year's worth of paycheques to buy their beloved the ring of their most fanciful desires. But as we all know, squirrels mate for life so it's a very worthwhile investment...happy wife, happy life.
But here's the real story behind this image. Years ago, when I was selling my nature photography regularly at a popular local farmer's market, I often had a man visit me who would buy stacks of squirrel cards. Squirrels were my specialty at that time.
Then I got to know a woman who kind of had a thing for squirrels too. Eventually these two people started showing up together as a couple. And then one day they announced that they were engaged. I am a digital/mixed media artist and nature photographer living on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. I'm surrounded by the ocean, forests, mountains, and abundant wildlife, and these things bring me joy that I hope finds its way into my images.
