Yes, everything you've heard about squirrels is true...they are real romantics and have been known to spend big money on emerald and gold wedding rings, sometimes saving a year's worth of paycheques to buy their beloved the ring of their most fanciful desires. But as we all know, squirrels mate for life so it's a very worthwhile investment...happy wife, happy life.

But here's the real story behind this image. Years ago, when I was selling my nature photography regularly at a popular local farmer's market, I often had a man visit me who would buy stacks of squirrel cards. Squirrels were my specialty at that time.

Then I got to know a woman who kind of had a thing for squirrels too. Eventually these two people started showing up together as a couple. And then one day they announced that they were engaged. They asked me to make them a special squirrel wedding invitation using their gold and emerald wedding ring. So I photographed the ring, arranged for the squirrels to get together to photograph them, and voila, a special squirrel wedding invitation was created and went out to all the wedding guests.
