Description
Photograph of a group of four snowy owls sitting on pieces of driftwood surrounded by brown grasses on the beach at Boundary Bay, in British Columbia, Canada. This owl photo was taken during the winter of 2011 when about 30 snowies showed up from Alaska and were scattered along the beach by the dyke in Boundary Bay. The owls were mostly found in small groups and mostly slept throughout the day. Apparently they flew down from the Arctic because there had been an abundant supply of lemmings (their usual diet), which led to a rise in the snowy owl population in the Arctic, which led to the younger owls being pushed out in search of food. There have been many snowy owls seen in British Columbia for the past two winters as a result.
