Photograph of the Buena Vista Social Club as they take the stage after their lively performance at a small club in the Plaza La Estrella near the resort of Cayo Santa Maria, Cuba. The photograph was taken in January, 2020. A watercolor effect has been added to my original photograph. A couple of the Buena Vista Social Club members that I recognized on stage under the colorful lights are Omara Portuondo and Ibrahim Ferrer.
The night was magic as the whole band poured their heart into their music including sensual salsa and rumba songs, with a couple of dancers twirling around the dance floor for much of the night. Incredibly, the band played at the packed club every Monday night before the pandemic hit. It was a memorable treat to see this legendary Cuban band in action, especially since I had enjoyed the documentary movie made about them in 1999.
