This is a commissioned portrait of a gorgeous tabby cat named Bella, with a pair of the most amazing green eyes that I've ever seen.
Here is Bella's heartwarming story, written by her new owner: "Bella lived on the streets of San Marcos for most of her young life. She is approximately 18 months old now. She was 9 months old when she had her 3 kittens born in early June 2019. I am not sure if Bella has ever had a home.
A trapper who happened to know me after she trapped this family called to ask if I could keep the kittens for a couple of nights. She brought the family to my house that Saturday evening with Bella and her 3 kittens all smashed into a tiny kitten carrier with the door falling off. I will never forget looking at Bella, whose beautiful emerald green eyes were so frightened, and as she looked at me I felt as though she were pleading with me to help her. The trapper was going to come back early Monday morning and take Bella to be spayed.
When the trapper brought Bella and her kittens back from the vet visit in which Bella only was spayed, the trapper acknowledged she had only asked me to keep the family for a couple of days. I asked what the trapper was going to do with them, and she said that the couple who had been feeding them was no longer answering calls. Therefore, her only choice was to drop them off on the streets where they had been living, or take them to the shelter. My heart would not allow that.
I made sure the family were all fed three times a day. I bought the best food possible for these little angels who had been on the street for way too long. The vet said when he spayed her that she had hardly any milk, so her kittens had been starving all along. I tried to reassure Bella I was not going to kick at her or strike her - every movement I made frightened her for a while. Bella was 6 lbs when she came to me with her kittens. She is now 10 lbs.
Two of the kittens were adopted. The third has not adjusted well to humans and she is back in my home - but she and Bella do not recognize each other, and it will take a long time to find peace. But Bella gets along well with my two male rescue kitties, Monet and Severus. All she wants is love. And to play with toys!"
