Photograph of a baby rufous hummingbird sitting on a tiny nest made of lichen and moss, surrounded by cedar tree branches. I have added several textures to the image to create a mood and a more painterly effect. Hummingbirds are born a day or so apart and I'd seen a marked difference in the size of the two young ones. I assume this was the younger bird and he had some catching up to do when it came time to take flight.

I am a digital/mixed media artist and nature photographer living on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. I'm surrounded by the ocean, forests, mountains, and abundant wildlife, and these things bring me joy that I hope finds its way into my images. When you view my work, my wish is that you feel a sense of intimacy that deepens your own connection to nature. Aside from photography, one of my passions is creating portraits of cats, dogs, and other animals. I also have growing collections of abstract landscapes, trees, flowers, and musical instruments. I also enjoy creating collages using vintage ephemera from the late 1800's and early 1900's. My work has been published numerous times in books, magazines, calendars, greeting...
