Artist's Description
My furry friend Lolo the Squirrel is not only street smart, she's book smart. Anytime Lolo doesn't understand a word in one of the books in her extensive library, she looks it up in the College Dictionary. I managed to photograph my furry friend when she took a quick break from reading that literary gem by Tolstoy, "War and Peace" to look up the word "samovar". Then, since she was in the s's anyway, she sneaked a quick peek at the word "squirrel" but was disappointed to see that the illustration was of a grey squirrel, not a Douglas squirrel like herself. And Lolo was doubly disappointed when the description didn't include the word "frisky".
In any case, Lolo knows that an educated squirrel can go far in the world and that one must have an open mind and learn new things until one goes on to the big oak tree in the sky.
Tied for 3rd place in FAA's "Books" contest, November, 2020.
About Peggy Collins
I am a digital/mixed media artist and nature photographer living on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. I'm surrounded by the ocean, forests, mountains, and abundant wildlife, and these things bring me joy that I hope finds its way into my images. When you view my work, my wish is that you feel a sense of intimacy that deepens your own connection to nature. Aside from photography, one of my passions is creating portraits of cats, dogs, and other animals. I also have growing collections of abstract landscapes, trees, flowers, and musical instruments. I also enjoy creating collages using vintage ephemera from the late 1800's and early 1900's. My work has been published numerous times in books, magazines, calendars, greeting...
