Description
Colorful commissioned portrait of Jaylah, a Tuxedo cat who's apparently quite the diva with her black and white coat and startling green eyes.
Here is what Jaylah's owner has to say about her:
"Jaylah's mama had been coming to my porch to eat as a stray cat for several months. One morning I realized she was pregnant. Then she disappeared for a bit. She would infrequently show up to eat. She finally brought her kitten Jaylah at 6 weeks old. I was trying to trap two male cats to get them neutered and planned to trap mama and her kitten soon, but I waited too long. Jaylah was seven weeks old and quite the diva. She started refusing to leave my house when her mama wanted to (I think they were living under a shed behind a neighbor across the street). One day Jaylah climbed up the tree in my front yard and refused to come down to go home. After 15 minutes of waiting for Jaylah to come down, mama jumped up in the tree, grabbed Jaylah by the scruff of the neck and dropped her down to the ground (it was 2 to 3 feet). Tough love. On a Thursday night after eating dinner, Jaylah refused to leave the front porch. She settled down on a towel I had left for them, and mama laid in front of her. My camera picked up a photo of mama at 2:45 am Friday morning with every hair on mama's body sticking straight up, Jaylah hid behind her. They were both gone from the next frame. The next morning they did not come for breakfast. Nor did they come for dinner Friday nite. At 4am on Saturday morning I heard a kitty wailing its heart out. I ran outside and walked all around the house but the wailing had stopped and I could not find anything. As I walked to the front door, tiny Jaylah ran up behind me, then cowered back when I turned arund as she was so frightened. She had been calling and calling for her mama. I don't know how she hid for all that time, but she finally let me catch her, I brought her in, gave her food and water and let her sleep safely, finally. Later I asked my neighbor if she could look on her ring camera to see what predator might scared mama and Jaylah so badly. At 2:45 am coyotes came up our street. Mama was able to run and distract the coyotes and Jaylah hid. Mama never came back, so she gave her life to save her kiten. I still get emotional about it. But Jaylah is doing well, I have seven other cats and she watches them intently, does everything they do, and plays happily with my Monet and my Severus (the others can be a little too rough for her). I became her mama the day I brought her in and I hope her real mama is proud of how her little kitten has survived and prospered."
