Photograph of a great blue heron perched in a cedar tree with maple leaves in the background. A watercolor effect has been added to this photo to give it a more painterly effect. A rookery of heron nests is nearby, and in the spring these large birds can often be seen breaking off tree branches and flying off to add their find to their nest. In fact, that's what this heron is doing...trying to locate the finest branch for nesting material.
