Description
I had gone down to the rocky shoreline at low tide hoping to see a good display of starfish to photograph. I noticed some movement from the corner of my eye and watched, delighted, as a mother deer and her twin fawns, still with lovely spotted coats, made their way down to the ocean.
In the past I've seen a mother deer teach her babies to swim in this very spot so I was hoping for more of the same. Unfortunately one of the fawns got spooked by a noise from above and they ran away from the water, right towards me. They came within 10 feet of me but I didn't want to move a muscle in case I frightened them again. Eventually they meandered off and re-joined their mother, munched on some bushes, then disappeared into some nearby woods.
I photographed the deer by Gunboat Bay, which is in Pender Harbour on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, Canada.
