Description
The second time I visited the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica, I stayed at a lodge where they kept a red-lored parrot in a cage because he couldn't fly. Every morning, very early, at least wild parrots would land in the nearby treetops and squawk at their caged friend, and then a whole extended bird conversation would ensue, with all parties communicating in loud calls that seemed to have an edge of urgency to them. This would last about 10 to 15 minutes, and then the wild parrots would fly away, leaving their friend behind for another day. The parrot I photographed here is sitting in the favored tree, a huge dead tree that had the highest viewpoint. I added several textures to the photograph to give it a more painterly appeal.
