Description
Photograph of a red-breasted nuthatch sitting on a snowy branch in winter. This small bird used to eat peanuts out of my hand and would sometimes land on the end of my telephoto lens, waiting for the chickadees to finish eating so that she could get a treat. She had a brood of babies in the spring, fed them all at my bird feeders, and unfortunately never came again. I still haven't met another nuthatch that's brave enough to eat out of my hand. I called her Nutty. It's crazy how attached I got to her, and how much I miss her sweet call and the feel of her sitting on my hand. This photograph would make a lovely Christmas card.
