Description
Photograph of a huge black bear standing up on his hind legs. The bear is standing in the forest, surrounded by tall grass, weeds, trees, and bushes. This was the first time I saw Big Ben, as I came to call him. My husband and I were walking our two dogs and had taken them off the leash only moments before. Seconds later one of my dogs (appropriately named Osa, which is Spanish for bear) was barking away at this huge animal she'd spotted down a slight incline. At first the bear lumbered away while I took a bunch of boring shots of his backside being swallowed by the tall grass, but then he seemed curious about the clicking camera and turned, standing up to his full height. And wow, he was big! After staring at us for several moments, my husband said, "I think we should go". Probably the understatement of the year! So we left, but not before I got this shot and several others. I had the opportunity to photograph Big Ben a couple of miles away from this spot almost a year ago to the day later...I'm happy to report that he looked bigger, if that's possible, and very healthy.
